20 Films To Watch If You Love Halloween But Hate Horror
12. Coraline (2009)
If there’s one film which knows how to utilise stop motion animation to the fullest, it’s Coraline. From start to finish, it is a rich visual feast of spooky imagery and lavish backgrounds. Even with claymation being one of the most taxing forms of animation to render smoothly on screen, the art style is consistently detailed and clear.
Set direction aside, Coraline is an innovative, creative movie with a very engaging plot. As the titular character explores her new home out of sheer boredom, she discovers an alternate world where everything is just like home, only…better. Her room is neater, the food is tastier and her parents are more fun. Of course, there is a twist. Her other mother is tricking her into this new universe so that she can have her soul. The plucky Coraline must be sneaky and clever in order to escape the evil of the other world.
It’s geared for all audiences but the storyline can get rather scary, giving Coraline the edge a movie needs for a classic Halloween feature fit for the whole family.
