15. Godzilla Vs. Kong - The Battle Of Hong Kong
The first tent-pole release of 2021 (which many had to watch at home, since so many cinemas were still closed) was a mixed affair, but its exceptional finale made up for pretty much all of its earlier mistakes.
The clash of the titans that we've been waiting for ever since the Monsterverse franchise was launched, this incredible battle - which saw Godzilla and King Kong slugging it out in Hong Kong - was honestly better than expected.
Big robots/creatures beating each other up can be incredibly dull (just ask the Transformers sequels) but this fight is a cinematically brilliant and endlessly thrilling neon-soaked masterpiece that really pulls you in and leaves you on the edge of your seat. Despite being best-known for lower-budget horror films prior to this, director Adam Wingard did an amazing job and handled this like a seasoned blockbuster pro.
All things considered, this is one of the finest action scenes of the year and it definitely makes one feel more enthusiastic about the prospect of further Monsterverse films.
