It is insane to think that Star Wars, one of the most iconic, most popular, and most lucrative film franchises in the history of the industry, has released exactly two good pictures since 1983, namely Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One.

After the original trilogy, there was a 16-year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace, and it’s fair to say that the general disappointment was justified. This then carried over to both Attack of the Clones and the aforementioned Revenge of the Sith, which, although the latter was good in its own right, couldn’t save that prequel trilogy.

Following another decade-long break, there have now been five projects released since 2015, which was the sequel trilogy, interspersed with Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Rogue One was phenomenal, and Solo was, in all honesty, forgettable and kind of pointless, but the sequel trilogy was a different kind of bad.

Disconnected as a series, unsure what to do with both original and returning characters, with nonsensical and dead-end story arcs, the three most recent films in the Skywalker Saga have done the impossible and made fans realise that maybe they were too harsh on the prequels. There's still more Star Wars to come on the big screen, but surely expectations have to be tempered and capped.
