20 Great Movies Since 2000 That You Forgot Existed

13. Erin Brockovich (2000)

Erin Brockovich is one of those movies that absolutely everybody has heard of, and yet... it seems to have slipped out from the minds of the public in recent times, despite the fact that - back in the day - it was a popular cultural touchstone of the highest order. So chances are that you've seen the movie, but when was the last time you actually thought about it? Because - let's face it - who talks about Erin Brockovich anymore? Nobody, that's who! A shame, then, given that Steven Soderbergh's biological drama makes for damn good entertainment. Though the plot sounds kind of annoying on paper ("woman sues energy company"), this was the movie that won Julia Roberts an Oscar, whilst the film itself was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. If you haven't given this a single thought since 2000, it's time to go back and watch Roberts working her magic; it really holds up.
