20 Highest Grossing Movies of 2014 - Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Gone Girl
David Fincher is without a doubt one of the best directors in the business, and Gone Girl marked yet another highly accomplished entry on the filmmakers resume, with the movie also turning out to be the biggest commercial hit of his career with a box office total north of $360m. Brilliantly acted and as technically flawless as you would expect from Fincher's work, Gone Girl is rightly positioned to be one of awards season's heavy hitters. Gillian Flynn does a great job in adapting her own novel for the screen, writing a script that provides suspense, satire and an ever-changing outlook on the characters and their motivations, while stylistically Gone Girl is pure Fincher, from the framing and camerawork to the editing and music. As usual, the director also brings the best out of his cast; Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris convincingly play against type, while Rosamund Pike's performance as the titular 'gone girl' is nothing short of incredible.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
