20 Horror Movie Characters Everyone Underestimated

10. The Lady - Strange Darling

JT Mollner's tenacious thriller Strange Darling did a stellar job of luring the audience into a false sense of security with regard to its protagonist - a young woman known only as "The Lady" (Willa Fitzgerald).

At the start of the movie, we see her being angrily chased down by an apparently psychopathic serial killer, credited only as "The Demon" (Kyle Gallner).

But mid-way through the film we learn that things aren't quite what they seem - The Lady is actually a serial killer called The Electric Lady and The Demon is really a cop who happens to be her latest intended victim.

The combination of non-linear storytelling and the audience's preconceptions about gender roles make it incredibly easy to be suckered in by this one, that this slender young woman is assuredly the victim rather than victimiser in this grim situation.

And though she doesn't make it to the end of the movie in one piece, she does manage to kill her target before checking out, biting his neck and tearing into his carotid artery. Gnarly.
