Found-footage horror The Last Broadcast centres around a filmmaker called David Leigh, who discovers fragmented video recordings of an unsolved murder case. As the recovered footage is analysed, some suggest the murderer is a mythical entity. David, on the other hand, has an alternative theory.

Although David tries to present himself as a natural documentarian, you can tell he's deeply passionate about the case and more eager than anyone to get to the bottom of it. Through his research, David deduces that unstable psychic Suerd is the perp. After all evidence corroborates David's findings, Suerd is found guilty and dies soon after in prison.

When data retrieval expert Shelley Monarch reconstructs images from a tape of the victim, though, she discovers David is the killer. In that moment, it's revealed that all of the footage up until this point was shot by David, deliberately edited in a way so that he was never a suspect. After dispatching Shelley, he continues narrating his doc, with the authorities none the wiser that he's the man they're looking for.

In hindsight, it's obvious that David took on the case not to learn the truth, but to prevent it from being uncovered.
