20 Hottest Stephen King Adaptations Currently In Development

12. The Long Walk

Stephen King's The Long Walk
New American Library

Status: Announced

Release: ???

Ever wanted to see The Hunger Games combined with The Hobbit's extended walking scenes from Frank Darabont? Well, you're in luck, you clearly very odd person. Sort of.

The Long Walk - which Darabont had owned the rights to for some time before New Line Cinema picked them up - is set in a dystopian future that pits 100 teenage boys against one another in a walking contest that will kill all but one of them. The Running Man, basically, only with walking. And boys.

Screenwriter James Vanderbilt is leading the charge on this adaptation, which will definitely not be very cheerful and which doesn't yet have a director or cast. It's a brave thing to adapt though and something a little different from the other choices.
