20 Idiotic Decisions Made By Characters In The X-Men Franchise
16. Magneto's Masterplan Makes No Sense For What He Actually Wants To Achieve - X-Men
When you take the time to go over it with a fine tooth comb, the entire plan that drives the plot of X-Men is highly questionable. Heck, you don't even need a "fine tooth comb" - the plan is noticeably dumb from the off-set, given that a) it's really complicated and requires a lot of coincidences to work and b) the outcome, should the plan actually succeed, relies entirely on luck. In short, it's a terrible plan for Magneto, a "mastermind villain."
So Magneto's ploy hinges on him transforming a bunch of high-ranking politicians and world leaders into mutants in order to have them better emphasise with the mutant species. That's about it. He doesn't ponder what actually doing this might realistically achieve on a global scale, though he presumably expects them to create new laws and rules that aid mutants and their agendas.
Really, though, what are the odds of these politicians siding with Magneto after he's turned them into mutants? Wouldn't they be angry? Wouldn't they want revenge? And who knows what powers they'd inherent as a result of his plans? Whatever the outcome, the least likely one is that said world leaders team up with Magneto.
