20 Idiotic Decisions Made By Characters In The X-Men Franchise

15. Nightcrawler Fumbles His Own Attempt To Kill The President (For No Reason) - X2

20th Century Fox

One of the best scenes in the entire X-Men franchise is the one that opens X2 (still arguably the greatest of all X-Men movies), which depicts Nightcrawler's failed attempt to assassinate the President of the United States. For all intents and purposes, Nightcrawler - whose power is teleporting, by the way - does a bloody good job of trying to kill the most powerful man on the planet - until he decides to get all theatrical for no reason.

After disarming twenty guards and clearing out of the Oval Office, Nightcrawler jumps onto the President's desk and leers over the politicianwith a super sharp knife. Instead of just plunging the weapon into the President's throat, though, the dumb mutant decides to spent those precious few seconds grinning and generally wasting time - only to end up getting shot in the back by a Secret Service agent he failed to knock unconscious.

Considering how great he'd been up to this point, you almost want to scream at Nightcrawler for failing to cease the moment when it mattered most.
