3. Christopher Reeve (Superman) - The Superman Series
Despite a number of actors trying to cement themselves as the iconic screen Superman we're all going to remember, nobody has yet been able to dethrone Christopher Reeve, who through his four Superman movies (admittedly of wildly varying quality), with the help of some exemplary special effects, made us believe, in fact, that a man could fly. With his chiseled good looks and charming personality, Reeve enthralled audiences with his dual-portrayal of the mild-mannered, nervous Clark Kent and the forthright, wholesome, enormously powerful Man of Steel. Having great characters to act opposite, such as Margot Kidder's Lois Lane and Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor, certainly didn't hurt, nor did John Williams' iconic score, or the fact that audiences simply hadn't seen a movie like this before. Though the first two Superman movies are the only truly great ones, Superman III did allow Reeve to experiment a little more with his performance, as he temporarily took on the role of the "corrupted" Superman. Superman IV was flat-out garbage, though. There's no excusing that. Still, it's not enough to prevent audiences from favouring Reeve's interpretation of the character above all others, brimming with heart and enthusiasm as it is.
