20 Incredible Facts You Didn't Know About 2021's Biggest Movies
13. Coca-Cola Was Necessary To Complete The Italy Chase - No Time To Die
Though the James Bond franchise is well-noted for its extravagant - and blatant! - product placements, Coca-Cola doesn't really fit in with the refined, hella-classy brands audiences associate with 007.
And so while the saccharine beverage wasn't included in No Time to Die as a paid placement, it did play a pivotal role in ensuring one of the film's biggest action sequences was pulled off as smoothly - and, er, stickily - as possible.
While shooting the opening motorcycle chase in Italy's Matera, the production used more than 8,000 gallons (almost 32,000 litres) of Coke, pouring it on Matera's ancient streets to the tune of around $77,000.
The rationale was that Coke, in all of its bubbly, sugary goodness, can act as an improvised adhesive, giving the vehicles a little extra grip and preventing them from sliding around on the slippery, sometimes uneven street surfaces.
This was especially crucial for the iconic beat where Bond jumps a motorcycle over a stone wall.
Once their time was done in Matera, the production then had to spray the streets down with water in order to rinse the Coke away. Movie magic at its finest, folks.
