The first film to be picked up by Amazon Studios, the film, which will be released theatrically before going live on Amazon, concerns the 1970, December 21st meeting between the legendary singer and the then president. Elvis, wanting to distance himself from the counter-culture, sought Nixon out to be made a "Federal Agent at Large" for the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. No such position existed, but Nixon, keen to improve his image with "the kids", agreed to the meeting. The real life story is beguiling as it is, and the thought of seeing two of the best actors alive take on two of the century's biggest icons only adds to Elvis & Nixon's intrigue. Director Liza Johnson, whose Hateship Loveship scored rave reviews for star Kristen Wiig, will hope to do similar work with Shannon and Spacey here.
