George Romero's 1968 film redefined the term 'zombie'. Filmed on a budget of just $118,000, the film is now considered a cult classic and has spawned many imitators and sequels. Props and special effects were limited because of funds, yet the film is very effective in spite of its small resources. Shot in the ever-popular black and white and filmed 'guerilla style' (at times it looks as much like a documentary as it does an exploitation film), the film was a huge hit at the drive-in circuit and served as inspiration for many future low budget horror indies. This seminal film is now in the public domain after a mix-up with the film rights.
