20 Most Influential Independent Films Of All Time

15. The Evil Dead

Sam Raimi and lead actor Brcuce Campbell went door-to-door with a prototype film in order to secure financing for The Evil Dead, raising $90,000 for the budget. That money was then used to make one of the most original horror films of all time. The shoot was notoriously difficult and the cast and crew had an uncomfortable time due to the style of the film and the fact that Raimi liked to torture them to see if they would crack. The film went on to make back it's budget several times over and brought Raimi to the attention of Hollywood. Two sequels and a remake followed but the ingenuity of the original remains unmatched.
