14. A Pixar Employee Animates Three Minutes A Year
Animation is an extremely tedious art form that requires a whole lot of patience, and it takes an extremely long time to get the final product done. That's especially true of films as complicated as Pixar's.
According to the CNBC documentary The Pixar Story, a typical animator at Pixar animates about three minutes per year. At the end of a long work week, they'll have about three seconds of animation to show for all their hours of hard work. But that's why so many hundreds of people work at Pixar.
When you're watching a film like Inside Out, try to imagine that every three seconds that goes by took somebody an entire week of work. Given that a final Pixar movie is usually around 100 minutes, that's pretty hard to wrap your mind around.
