Rotten Tomatoes: 96% From 165 Reviews Alongside the exceptional Curbain: Montage Of Heck and Seymour: An Introduction, Amy made 2015 a good year for music documentary fans who look for something more than sycophancy. With a compellingly tragic story to tell (and one which many will assume to be a lot more familiar with than they are), Amy picks at the still fresh wounds of Amy Winehouse's heart-breakingly short life. And rather than simply spinning this as some sort of grave muck-raking or wide-eyed eulogy, film-maker Asif Kapadia (who made the excellent Senna of course) makes you feel in some way responsible for what happened. It's as much a lamentation of how inevitable her tragedy was and the pressurised mechanics of fame, as it is for her talent and herself. Uplifting it's not - it's enough to inspire genuine tears pretty much all the way through - but it's a far more interesting film experience than some cynics might have pegged it as prior to release.
