20 Most Anticipated 2017 Movies
9. Thor: Ragnarok
What Is It? Thor's third (and final?) solo outing teams up Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder with Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner in a movie that's half Planet Hulk, half Apocalypse. Jeff Goldblum is the Grandmaster, Cate Blanchett the villain, and there's also the issue of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) usurping Odin (Anthony Hopkins) to be the ruler of Asgard to be dealt with. In keeping with Marvel's eclectic filmmaker choices, What We Do In The Shadows' Taika Waititi directs.

Why Will It Be Awesome? Every movie in Marvel's Phase 3 seems to have have been pitched as intense as most, and Ragnarok shows this better than most; it's the long-anticipated Planet Hulk adaptation (sort of) and appears to be shifting focus to the better parts of Thor's mythology. Most intriguing is the appointment of Waititi, however, whose previous work in comedy belies the epic scale the subtitle (Ragnarok is the Asgardian apocalypse) suggests, promising a very unique experience.
Any Concerns? Thor's film have been the limpest of the MCU standalones, with neither quite selling their concept (Shakespearean superheroes and Marvel's Game Of Thrones respectively), and there's a distinct risk this could make it three for three.
