20 Most Anticipated Movies For The Rest Of 2026
15. Resident Evil
With Hollywood now taking video game adaptations seriously, there's probably no better time to return to Resident Evil, which, historically, hasn't been dealt the greatest hand with its big-screen takes to date. But this new film will be written and directed by the brilliant Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons), which immediately puts it leagues ahead of all seven previous Resident Evil adaptations in terms of potential.
Now, Cregger did ruffle some feathers by revealing that his movie revolves around entirely original characters while existing within the universe of the Resident Evil games, but honestly, not being hopelessly shackled to the lore of the games is probably a smart approach moving forward.
The trailer certainly suggests that Cregger has captured the sinister vibe of the source material, and lead Austin Abrams looks like a perfect everyman - an organ courier who finds himself at ground zero for the undead apocalypse.
While reports suggest this is more of a lean sprint of a movie compared to Cregger's previous works, the odds of it being the best Resident Evil movie to date are astronomically high - a low bar, admittedly.
Resident Evil releases on September 18.
