2. Gestapo's Last Orgy (1977)

The most egregious of the Nasty Nazi movies that ended up as one of the 39 prosecuted films, Gestapo's Last Orgy is a vulgar, disgusting and depraved film that has aspirations to be in The Night Porter's league but really ends up wallowing in the gutter. The film follows the story of Lise Cohen. Haunted by the thought that it is her responsibility that her family was captured by Nazis, Lise appears to be in a trance - calmly enduring all the horrendous things the SS can throw at her. The threat of being dipped into quick lime doesn't perturb her. When she is thrust head first into a tank of 'rats' (actually a bunch of the tamest looking gerbils ever), nary a protestation comes from her. This aloof behaviour catches the eye of Camp Commander Conrad von Starke and he becomes determined to break Lise's spirit in a series of increasingly audacious tortures. What finally wrecks Lise's mute facade is the news from the camp doctor that she wasn't responsible for her family's capture by the Nazis. Now how can a girl react to that news? By embracing life and instantly shagging the doctor for a very long time while the terrible theme tune plays. This sequence is so embarrassing, it is hilarious. Lise capitulates to Conrad's demands with glee - even sporting for him a public wig of scalps from murdered inmates. But the war is soon over and Lise and Conrad are parted. Cue a decade or so and Conrad and Lise meet up at the old camp and she shoots him. So pretty repugnant fare there that I have detailed, but there is so much more in the film that is repulsive to behold. There are scenes of cannibalism as the SS officers sit down to a dinner of 'unborn baby stew'. They also set a woman alight in cognac and eat her too. At the beginning of the film, members of the SS Totenkopfverbande are shown a a series of slides including rape, mother/daughter incest, coprophilia and bondage. This is a slander to an entire race - Judaism - and pretty much takes the Most Astounding Moment of Bad Taste in a Nasty Nazi Movie trophy. I know that society is getting more and more liberal, but even I am not broken hearted about this film being banned and made a cinematic pariah, it is so out there. Controversial because: it is anti-semitic and nasty in the extreme.
