20 Most Disappointing Movies of 2025
12. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey
This one really stings. Kogonada's first two films, Columbus and After Yang, were highly distinct works in wildly different genres, and so it was easy to be optimistic about his take on a romantic fantasy yarn, especially with Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell starring.
And while A Big Bold Beautiful Journey boasts some enticing visuals, it's ultimately a naffly twee, overwrought love-in that fundamentally falls apart because, as well-paired as they seem on paper, Robbie and Farrell have no romantic chemistry whatsoever.
Tellingly, this is the first of Kogonada's three films that he didn't also write, and it's painfully clear that he struggled to translate Seth Reiss's maudlin, exhausting script into something that functions on even a basic emotional level.
In retrospect the poor test screenings and Sony's decision to send it out to die with minimal marketing aren't remotely surprising - it's a film that, for all of its superficial allure, just doesn't work.
