Despite the presence of Ridley Scott behind the camera and the usually excellent Cormac McCarthy on writing duties, there's very little to recommend The Counselor - as far as thrillers go it's a bit of a mess, clumsily put together and completely lacking in tension. It does, however, have one scene which makes it just about worth sitting through - Brad Pitt's drug dealing middleman Westray is accosted in the streets by hitmen using a very particular method of assassination - the "bolito" device. The bolito is a particularly effective tool when it comes to lopping off someone's head, its razor sharp wire slowly but surely closing in around the victim's neck before cutting through flesh and bone. Brad Pitt doesn't die on screen very often, but in The Counselor he sure does it in style. First the bolito cuts off his fingers as he tries to pull it from around his neck, then he falls for the floor and the device keeps on cutting, blood spraying from his neck before finally his head drops off, horrifying passersby on the busy streets of London. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpZGXTrG2zw
