In today's cinema, remakes and novel adaptations are obviously big business. Rebecca is both in that it's a remake of a novel adaptation. Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel, Rebecca, was first adapted by Alfred Hitchcock two years later, and won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

In 2020, Lily James, Armie Hammer, and Keeley Hawes will retell the story of Maxim de Winter and his new wife, as she tries to overcome the shadow of her husband's mysterious first wife, Rebecca. Will it recreate the magic that saw it named the best movie of 1940? Probably not. But it should be a wonderfully creepy movie well worth a watch.
