20 Most Perfect Scenes In Recent Movies

13. Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning - Biplane Fight

After nearly thirty years of high-octane thrills, the Mission: Impossible series has come to an end and although its eighth entry wasn't the strongest in the series, it didn't skimp on the madness in the slightest and delivered one last slice of elite action - especially that deliriously thrilling climax, a biplane-based chase sequence which was stressful viewing even by the standards of this franchise.

While other Mission: Impossible set pieces from past films are even stronger, virtually none of them carry this sense of fraught terror. In this particular case, the team were trying to stop a rogue AI that'd taken control of the world's nuclear arsenal. The stakes have literally never been higher, and the final chase also featured all the usual elements that have made this franchise so consistently great.

Namely: spectacular stunts, brilliant practical effects, the heroes only winning by the skin of their teeth, a complete mastery of suspense that'd make Alfred Hitchcock proud and of course, Tom Cruise doing his iconic run. While it might not be the very best action set-piece in Mission: Impossible, it is still phenomenal stuff by any reasonable standard. At least 95% of other action films don't have anything on this level, so let this be a reminder that it's time to give this unjustly bashed franchise finale some more love.
