16. Baise Moi (2000)base moi Manu and Nadine are two severely disaffected young women who team up together for a violent crime wave across France. Manu has been raped and just killed her brother after he said she enjoyed it. In a spat over the rent, Nadine kills her flatmate. Manu and Nadine have a whale of a time rampaging through France, gaining many supporters but generally creating a media panic. Of course it all ends horribly for our anti-heroines and they pay the price for their antics. An extremely violent film with jarring unsimulated sex scenes, you will not feel yourself getting turned on by the sex in the film. It is too repellant and is not in the least bit erotic - especially the rape of Manu in some of the earlier scenes in the film. Baise Moi is quite a revolutionary film in terms of incorporating hardcore sex scenes into an ordinary film. It has had a troubled censorship history - banned in its native France and thus a cause celebre. I thought the most repellant scene was when Manu performed fellatio on a guy and threw up over his manhood. Grim viewing.
