20 Most Rewatchable Horror Movies Of All Time

4. A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

The Shining Jack Nicholson
New Line Cinema

A Nightmare on Elm Street has the best horror movie character of all time – Freddy Krueger. He has a distinctive design, the most outstanding features and very unique powers of being able to strike in people’s dreams.

One of the most dynamic and complex villains ever, Freddy is the defining part of what’s made Wes Craven’s 1984 horror such a beloved classic. His powers seem unlimited which is why the story is so unpredictable.

Furthermore, A Nightmare on Elm Street broke out of typical clichés because of its abundant creativity and imagination. The dream sequences are so nightmarishly depicted, the audience becomes sucked into them. Nancy broke the norms of the ‘last girl standing’ as she sets her own rules and is able to outsmart Freddy Krueger (at least temporarily anyway). The ending catches you off guard, with a great sense of ambiguity to the final conclusion.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is stylistic, multi-dimensional, violent – a one of a kind movie.
