20 Most Rewatchable Horror Movies Of All Time

3. Scream (1996)

The Shining Jack Nicholson
Dimension Films

With a few tweaks to the genre, this was the film that revived the slasher genre. Scream was a satire on its predecessors but the plot never verged into goofiness because it was still genuinely terrifying with an intelligent level of storytelling.

Much like how Psycho was set up, Scream contains a very unexpected death. Drew Barrymore is portrayed as the star of the film, the face of every poster and is easily the most famous cast member. Wes Craven had the brilliance of hyping her appearance up through advertisements just to kill her off within the prologue of the film, beginning a string of many more unexpected twists.

With cutting dialogue and a clever set up, Scream cemented itself as an instant classic that would reign head and shoulders above many teenage horror flicks.
