20 Most Rewatchable Movies Of The 21st Century

8. Skyfall (2012)

Sony Pictures/MGM

You couldn't make a list of this kind without including at least one Bond movie. But seeing as we have to exclude Die Another Day and Quantum Of Solace, because they're rubbish, and discount Casino Royale for being the more straightforward 'origins' movie, it all comes down to Skyfall.

The 23rd Bond film, released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of first Bond movie Dr. No, Sam Mendes' Skyfall also bears the distinction of being possibly the best Bond movie ever, and maybe even the first that really works as a standalone movie, and not one hemmed in by expectations of the franchise. For that we owe a great deal to Mendes, who reintroduces some humour, ups the action stakes and chucks in a camp, OTT villain into the bargain. Javier Bardem's Raoul Silva steals the show, despite not appearing until we're an hour in, but the entire cast of this reboot of the reboot is impeccable: Ralph Fiennes as the new M, Ben Whishaw as the new Q, and Naomie Harris as a Moneypenny that gets behind a sniper rifle when things get heavy.

Cinematographer Roger Deakins ensures it's the best-looking Bond film bar-none, but Skyfall would be nowhere without the screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan, whose witty script puts some genuine danger back into James Bond's life.
