Adapted from the mind-bending work of Blade Runner author Philip K Dick, this beautifully realised sci fi thriller uses then-revolutionary (and not a little nausea-inducing) technology to bring the story of a paranoid double agent infiltrating his druggy friends for the government to vivid, surreal life.

So, why are we recommending the story of a narc, told in a style so strange it might make you feel a bit sick?

Well, because the trippiness is part of the point for this unsettling Richard Linklater effort, which forces the viewer to empathise with its cast of outcasts and miscreants in order to humanize them by literally showing the viewer the world as seen by their warped, drug addled perception. It’s a neat trick which makes this potentially exploitative tale moving and innovative, and well worth revisiting,
