20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2018

14. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (80%)

Given that 2008's original Mamma Mia! scored squarely mixed reviews from critics (55%), it was sensible to have fairly low expectations for Here We Go Again.

As not only a sequel but a hugely belated one where Meryl Streep is relegated to a brief cameo, the odds weren't exactly working in its favour. In a surprise twist, however, the follow-up became a rarest of sequels to thoroughly improve upon its predecessor.

The credit lies largely with the game cast, who execute the goofy material with enthusiastic aplomb, while director Ol Parker continually piles on the absurdity while frequently winking at the audience.

It's an easy, fun time and a good deal more consistent than its predecessor, but honestly, would it have surprised anyone if this scored 32%?
