3. Lucy In The Sky (22%)

Lucy in the Sky Natalie Portman
Fox Searchlight

With his Natalie Portman-starring sci-fi drama Lucy in the Sky, Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley seemed primed to make a graceful and ambitious transition from TV to film.

With a fascinating premise loosely footed in real events - an astronaut (Portman) returns home and finds herself unable to adjust - Lucy in the Sky had all the potential for an uncommonly engrossing drama, and perhaps even an Oscar hopeful.

But as it turned out, the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival was a total disaster, resulting in terrible reviews primarily for Hawley's self-indulgent direction and incoherent screenplay, despite many praising Portman's performance.

For a film which could've put Portman in Oscar contention were the material stronger, this was a brutal disappointment.
