20 Movie Scenes That Should've Been Cut
2. The Magic 8-Ball - Ghost Rider
2007's Ghost Rider movie isn't great at the best of times, but it impressively trots out a scene that's too goofy even for a film about a stuntman who sells his soul to become a skeletal superhero.
Early on, Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) stands up his love interest Roxanne Simpson (Eva Mendes) at a restaurant, resulting in a prolonged sequence where she's left waiting for him with increasing impatience and disappointment.
After checking her phone and receiving zero messages from Johnny, we cut back to her as she pulls a... magic 8-ball out of her purse and consults it for wisdom on the date. We don't see what the ball says, but her facial expression makes it clear it's nothing good.
But seriously, who the hell brings a full-sized magic 8-ball to a fancy restaurant? The scene was presumably supposed to be funny, but it lands horribly, proving more distractingly odd than amusing.
At 110 minutes the film was already pushing it, and we could've all been spared a minute of our time by cutting this misfired gag in its entirety.
