20 Movie Sequels That Were JUST Confirmed

The Jurassic Park franchise is one of the most reliable commercial behemoths in cinema history, because no matter how poorly received the sequels have been, audiences keep turning up because they really, really love dinosaurs.

This past summer's Jurassic World Rebirth wasn't the worst movie in the series, but it was probably the most forgettable, and while ultimately being the lowest-grossing of the four Jurassic World-branded films to date, it still turned an easy profit with $868.9 million in grosses.

And so it's little surprise that Universal is apparently already working on an eighth movie, with insider Jeff Snider recently revealing that the studio has asked director Gareth Edwards to return, with central cast members Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali all expected to reprise their roles.

Again, none of this is surprising - Rebirth proved the series could still make bank without either the legacy cast or the original Jurassic World team, and Edwards delivered a hit while working against a ludicrous deadline given that shooting didn't start until a mere year before release.

It'd be daft to have optimistic expectations for a series that still hasn't delivered one genuinely great or even particularly good sequel since the first, but hopefully for number eight Edwards and co. are afforded a little more time to hash things out before shooting starts.
