20 Movie Sequels That Were JUST Confirmed

Late last year, it was announced that a reboot of the classic 1993 Sylvester Stallone film Cliffhanger had quietly started shooting. 

Though a direct sequel to the Stallone film was originally in the works, it was ultimately rejected in favour of a reboot starring Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.

And while the new Cliffhanger isn't set to release until August 28, 2026, back in September - almost a full year before release - it was announced that a sequel was already in early development.

One can assume that James is expected to return and probably Brosnan - assuming his character survives the first movie - and much like the Mortal Kombat III situation, the early sequel announcement indicates a high level of confidence in the upcoming film.

Sure, it's entirely possible this sequel still goes away if the Cliffhanger reboot flops, but those in charge clearly aren't wasting any time getting a potential next chapter ready to go.
