20 Movie Sequels That Were JUST Confirmed
12. Viva La Madness
Now here's a sequel just about nobody saw coming.
2004's Layer Cake is a terrifically entertaining crime thriller starring Daniel Craig and directed by Matthew Vaughn - a great movie, albeit one which categorically seemed like a one-off, especially given that Craig's unnamed protagonist is seemingly shot dead at the end.
However, in 2011 author J.J. Connolly released a sequel novel, Viva La Madness, revealing that the character survived, and several years later Jason Statham's production company acquired the rights to produce said sequel, with Statham taking over from Craig - ever a natural fit if there was one.
Though at one point envisioned as a TV show, Viva La Madness was recently confirmed to be a film once again, with Guy Ritchie set to direct, marking his sixth collaboration with The Stath.
Unsurprisingly the film, which is imminently due to start shooting, will largely function as a standalone follow-up - probably a smart move considering both how much time has passed since Layer Cake's release and the recast.
