20 Film & TV Remakes You Didn't Know Were Coming
7. Judge Dredd
When Dredd released in 2012 as a new take on the franchise that first appeared on screen with Judge Dredd in 1995, it achieved something that alludes most reboots. It wasn't completely hated, and there were actually calls for a sequel that were never answered.
Karl Urban followed in Sylvester Stallone's footsteps nicely, but no further projects came. Instead, there is a new Judge Dredd movie on the horizon, this time being made at the hands of Taika Waititi.
After Thor: Ragnarok, the director became a mainstream sensation, and went on to make the exceptional Jojo Rabbit, and became involved in the Star Wars universe. However, the abysmal Thor: Love and Thunder saw his stock plummet. There appears to be little to no interest in his Star Wars film, which is reportedly still in the works, and even less in his reimagining of Judge Dredd.
It's hard to picture the typical Judge Dredd character and tone combining well with Waititi's trademark brand of silly humour. Of course, this was the case before he took on the God of Thunder, which suggests that this project does have the potential to be a fun new direction for the franchise, but it could also be another Love and Thunder. Nobody wants that.
