20 Movies That Will Win Oscars In 2023
17. Women Talking
Directly behind The Fabelmans in the Best Picture frontrunner stakes is Women Talking, actor-turned-filmmaker Sarah Polley's first feature film in 11 years.
Polley's adaptation of Miriam Toews' 2018 novel received rave reviews following its recent premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, positioning it as a major Oscar contender for Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor (Ben Whishaw), Supporting Actress (Jessie Buckley and Claire Foy), Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing, Costume Design, and Original Score.
If Polley wins Best Director, it'll make her the third female winner of the award in a row, though it's ultimately most likely to prevail in the Adapted Screenplay field, where it won't face direct competition from The Fabelmans (which will compete for Original Screenplay).
It's entirely possible Polley's film storms the gates and runs away with it all, but there's virtually zero chance that it leaves Oscar night empty handed.
