In a major get for Netflix, they've collaborated with Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant) on his new film Bardo (or False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths).

Though the narrative is largely being kept under wraps, we know that it revolves around a Mexican journalist and documentarian (Daniel Giménez Cacho) who returns home while working through an existential crisis.

It sounds very much within Iñárritu's typically heady wheelhouse, and has been selected to compete for the coveted Golden Lion at the upcoming Venice International Film Festival.

It goes without saying that the film is immediately earmarked as a major contender for the Best International Feature Film Oscar next year, and with veteran cinematographer Darius Khondji (Uncut Gems) lensing the project, it should be a real looker too.

Bardo releases later this year.
