20 Opening Movie Scenes That Are Totally Flawless
9. A Dark Side - When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
Rob Reiner's When Harry Met Sally remains the greatest rom-com of all time, setting the tone for almost every subsequent film in the genre and giving fans some of the most memorable scenes in movie history in the process.
But one scene which often gets overlooked in place of Billy Crystal's final declaration of love and the iconic diner exchange is the film's opening, where Harry (Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) meet for the first time.
After graduating college, the pair share a car to New York City on the suggestion of Harry's girlfriend, forcing them together for an eighteen-hour road trip, which features them talking about love, death, their respective futures and the idea that men and women can be friends without falling for each other.
It's a funny, awkward sequence expertly performed by Crystal and Ryan, and deserves to be ranked alongside the film's most famous scenes.
