20 Predictions For 2018's Rotten Tomatoes Scores
8. X-Men: Dark Phoenix (46%)
Predicted Critical Consensus: "Another disappointingly workmanlike entry into the X-Men franchise, Dark Phoenix fails to make the most of its title character's savage potential."
In many ways, X-Men: Apocalypse signalled peak critical stagnation for the superhero franchise (scoring just 48%), with Bryan Singer turning in a bloated, dull, CGI-soaked mess of a movie that's barely talked about even just two years later.
With the likes of Deadpool and Logan teasing some tantalising new R-rated directions for the franchise, these safer, more generic superhero jaunts aren't really cutting it, and so it's hard to imagine Dark Phoenix being anything but more of the boring same.
With X-Men writer Simon Kinberg making his directorial debut on the film and the plot focusing on Jean Grey as played by the woefully miscast Sophie Turner, there's little reason to expect much from this bar the encouraging presence of Jessica Chastain as the movie's currently unnamed villain.
Still, people said Oscar Isaac would elevate Apocalypse, and look how that turned out.
