Cianfrance's first two movies (Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines) are batting 88% and 80% on the Tomatometer respectively, and he has such a brilliant handle on actors that it's hard to imagine him not wringing amazing work out of ones as talented as these two.

Cianfrance also has the benefit of working from acclaimed source material this time in M.L. Stedman's novel, and so with this much promise working in his favour, it's hard to imagine anything less than sturdy acclaim.
