Predicted Critical Consensus: "It earns zero points for subtlety, but the Peter Berg-Mark Wahlberg dream team once again turns in a potent, well-acted document of a real-life tragedy."

The first of two collaborations between Berg and Wahlberg this Oscar season, Deepwater Horizon looks visually stunning and intense, though it just remains to be seen how well Berg will weather his usual heavy-handedness.

It seems likely that emotional power will probably triumph over any directorial misgivings, and it's worth remembering that though he exited over "creative differences", J. C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) was originally set to direct this script, which suggests a certain pedigree, depending upon what those differences were exactly.
