9. Horror Films Are Universal
The beauty of horror films is that they are not confined to just one audience or one country - they are a global phenomenon. Of course, there are several countries that are known to be more horror friendly than others, but in general, every country will have made a horror film at some point. Flying the horror film flags especially high are Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, France and America. Oooh I nearly forgot about Coffin Joe and Brazil. Several genres are specific to certain countries - Mexico liked mummies and werewolves for a long time (thrown in with a pinch of wrestling). Hey I'm from Northern Ireland and we even got our own zombie film Battle of the Bone (although only people au fait with Northern Irish culture will pick up on the significance of the title). To our horror making friends across the globe - we salute you!
