20 Recent CGI Movie Moments You Can't Unsee
1. Video Game Rami Malek - Until Dawn
The recent adaptation of hit video game Until Dawn wasn't great, but at least it delivered some gnarly kills and touted a fun time loop gimmick.
Even with an emphasis on practical gore, the digital embellishments mostly looked rock solid, and in fact, the single moment of jarring CGI probably isn't quite what you think.
Near the end of the movie, protagonist Clover (Ella Rubin) finds a file on the desk of psychologist Dr. Hill (Peter Stormare) for one of his patients, Joshua Washington.
Joshua Washington was a character from the Until Dawn game, played by a pre-Oscar Rami Malek, and hilariously Joshua's file simply contains a screen grab from the game rather than, y'know, an actual photo of Malek.
This was presumably because Sony already had the rights to Malek's likeness in the game and would need to pay/bother him again for a live-action photo, which he may well have not been interested in.
All the same, it's hilarious to see an obvious video game screenshot included in an otherwise purely live-action movie.
It's a quick enough glimpse of Josh that it'll probably pass muster for many people watching, but it's also very clearly not a photo of an actual human being.
