6. Scared S**tless
There was a very strong possibility that the best thing about Scared S**tless would be its title, given that the film revolves around a father-son duo of plumbers (Steven Ogg and Daniel Doheny) battling a tentacled monster working its way through the plumbing system of an apartment building.
But director Vivieno Caldinelli absolutely gets it, serving up a refreshingly to-the-point genre exercise packed to the brim with impressive practical gore and creature effects, alongside an endearing two-hander between Doheny and the ever-brilliant Ogg.
Though clearly produced on a low budget, Scared S**tless is a film overflowing with invention and good humour, and perhaps best of all it understands the brevity of a good joke, given that it clocks in at an incredibly slight 76 minutes.
The movie might've risked wearing itself out at 100 minutes, but at just-barely-feature-length it's a laudably undemanding romp that gets in, does its thing, and then swiftly returns from whence it came.
