20 Recent Movies That Ruined INCREDIBLE Plots
5. Return to Silent Hill
While many great video games are tough to adapt into movies because their storytelling is designed to be told across dozens of hours, the survival horror masterpiece Silent Hill 2 is an innately cinematic experience that could be quite comfortably boiled down to fit a two-hour movie.
All of the ingredients in the game were ripe for a faithful big-screen adaptation, then, but after 20 years of trying to get it made, director Christophe Gans puzzlingly decided to deviate wildly from the source material.
From making needless changes to James (Jeremy Irvine) and Mary's (Hannah Emily Anderson) relationship to melding several distinct characters into one, and then serving up a totally different, wholly less satisfying ending, there's no clear rhyme or reason to these revisions.
For all the love Gans has espoused for Silent Hill 2 over the last two decades, it's truly baffling that he made such a mess of it when he finally got the chance to bring it to the big screen.
This is without even getting into film's other issues - namely its distractingly low budget and dodgy central casting.
