20 Rotten Tomatoes Predictions For 2023's Biggest Movies
17. Scream VI (65%)
The Scream franchise has had a pretty damn impressive batting average for the standards of any horror movie franchise, with the only critically Rotten entry being Scream 3 (41%).
Last year's fifth film, simply titled Scream, landed an impressive 76%, and seemingly proved the series could live on just fine without the late, great Wes Craven.
And with the majority of that film's creative team returning for Scream VI, it's reasonable to expect decent-at-worst reviews, right?
Shifting the setting from Woodsboro to New York City should give the sixth film a welcome new flavour, and fans are certainly hype for the return of Scream 4 fan favourite Kirby (Hayden Panettiere), but there's one big reason to be worried: the absence of Sidney (Neve Campbell).
Shortly before production started, it was confirmed that Sidney wouldn't appear in Scream VI due to a salary dispute with Paramount, and though the franchise would probably do well to start distancing itself from its legacy characters, Campbell's last-minute exit will surely rub some fans (and critics) the wrong way.
Moreover, it could've resulted in messy rewrites to erase Sid from the script. And while one suspects Scream VI will still fare well enough, it's fair to expect some rough edges due to the behind-the-scenes issues.
