20 Summer 2018 Films You Aren't Excited About (But Should Be)
8. The Meg
Get ready to be scared to go back in the water once again. Jason Statham takes the lead as Navy diver Jonas Taylor, in this long in-development adaptation of Steve Alten's 1997 novel about a 70 foot prehistoric shark - the Carcharodon megalodon - which surfaces in the Pacific, with an appropriately gargantuan appetite. Cue a ton of 'Jurassic Shark' jokes.
The novel spawned a slew of sequels, so if this should prove a hit it might be a franchise launcher. And it's hard to envisage this one not drawing a big audience: after all, who doesn't want to see The Stath fight a giant shark?
Jon Turtetaub (National Treasure) directs, while the supporting cast includes Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose and Rainn Wilson.
Release: 10th August.
