18. Manglehorn
Like Nicolas Cage before him, Al Pacino looks set for a career resurgence after this stunning character study helmed by Joe (and, er, Pineapple Express) director David Gordon Green. At this point, like Cage, Pacino is almost like a caricature of himself, a collection of tics and catchphrases.
Manglehorn strips him back to what he really is: a fantastic character actor. The film is essentially all Pacino, as he peels back the layers of an old man looking back on a past crime that lost him his one true love.
