20 Things Harry Potter Film Supporting Actors Are Doing Now

What happens to the actors who are part of such a huge franchise, but rarely in the spotlight?

Casting Harry Potter had to have been a little bit like playing Russian Roulette. You're bringing in a group of largely untested child actors, and praying to the Cinema God that not only will they commit to an eight film series, but that they'll grow into talented individuals and not get beaten by an ugly stick on their way through puberty. They dodged a bullet with the main trio, with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint all turning out perfectly fine. They've got good heads on their shoulders and seem remarkably mature in their ability to pick roles that will work for them as adults. But what about the rest of the cast? Because they weren't just casting Harry, Ron, and Hermione -- they had a school full of students to fill. So what happens to the actors who are part of such a huge franchise, but rarely in the spotlight? Surprisingly, a lot of them are still working as actors, which is remarkable considering that they made the decision to venture into the film world as children, and if we all did the jobs we wanted as kids, there would be a major surplus of firefighters and superheroes running around. Three years after the last Harry Potter film came out, this is where the large extended cast are now.

20. Sean Biggerstaff - Oliver Wood

Sean Biggerstaff Oliver Wood was only featured in the first couple Harry Potter films, back when the characters weren't too busy fighting Voldemort to play a little Quidditch. He was the obsessive Gryffindor captain who didn't really care if you broke your arm as long as you caught the Snitch while doing it, and Sean Biggerstaff imbued him with a tremendous amount of charm and humor. Unfortunately, Quidditch sort of took a backseat in the films, and even though his character is featured through the fourth book, he only appears in the first two films. The Scottish actor's biggest role lately was last year's Mary Queen of Scots, when he played James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, a man who very briefly served as the queen's husband. He also has an upcoming film called Hector & Himself, which was just announced to be a thriller likely coming out within the next year or two.

19. Christian Coulson - Tom Riddle

Christian Coulson Christian Coulson only appeared in one Harry Potter film, but his performance cast a long shadow. Although we didn't know it at the time, his role of Voldemort at the ripe young age of 16 introduced the concept of horcruxes to the series, and actually makes a lot more sense now that we have all the information. He was spooky and cruelly handsome, and they really should have used him in Half Blood Prince when they were doing flashbacks to Tom Riddle in his early 20s. Since his performance in Harry Potter, he's been working consistently in the United States, largely on small independent features. His biggest film outside of this franchise was a relatively small role in The Hours, but his next project is a film called Peter and John, based on a novel by Guy de Maupassant and due to be released in 2015.
